Just got banned on Bob Is The Oil guy chat forum. Had slugde goop chunks in the bottom of brand new Pennzoil Ultra Platinum as seen here

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Anywho, without knowing I had just sparked a known issue with the forum’s main sponsor. Most people called me a troll, other members remembered past post (that mods deleted) and some who work at garages corroborated they’ve seen the same in the bottom of large quantity bags of Pennzoil.

Anywho, got the ban hammer. Those guys are Nazis. Worst chat forum experience I’ve encountered.

Meanwhile Pennzoil opened a case and is doing analysis on the batch of oil my jug was from. Pennzoil themselves have been cool about it, and very timely.

Huh. I never spent enough time on BItOG to witness that kind of behavior. When I go there for more information on something, I usually have to bail because the discussion soon gets way too technical for my little brain. Maybe I’m just visiting the wrong (or right?) threads.

I’ve only gone for info before as well. I’ve never needed to join the discussion, and ban or not likely never will have a need to post again. This was a one-off that I went to get info about. I’m actually a little stunned because my intentions were innocent and genuine.

Lol the ban says “reason for your ban is given below... ‘no reason’” oh, k, thanks mods. Sheesh

*looks back at the many cases of Pennzoil Platinum, Ultra Platinum, and Platinum Euro on the shelves at the FCA dealer I work at*

....everything is fine, nothing to see here, Pennzoil is great....

I’ve never understood the obsession people have over oil.

Look at your owners manual for the proper weight and type, buy a good brand, and put in your engine.

Change it when it’s time for an oil change.

If I were an engine builder for a race car shop, then sure, I’d send it in for analysis. But guys who drive Camry’s that send their oil in for analysis crack me up.

This is a forum where people endlessly debate oil change intervals, what oil viscosity to use, and pat themselves on the back about their Blackstone Labs results. It’s not a sane place.

After spending many years on the internet, I have come to the conclusion that there are a handful of forums like Oppo worth posting but outside of those, it’s best to be a lurker.

Bit o chunks on the bottom of PP is a known thing and general consensus is it’s nothing to worry about.

Well shit, I got a free oil change with Pennzoil full synthetic. Maybe I should switch back early to the Mobil 1 full synthetic I normally run.

Truth. There is mung in the ecoboxes. Those hold 28 qt.

Pennzoil is junk. I stay away. No matter the price. Even the most expensive oil is cheaper than an engine.

See i thought as far as big box store’s oil went, Pennzoil Ultra Plat. was the top shelf. What do you use thats readily available?

Well I use Mobil 1 because we have that on tap at work. But I would buy it or Valvoline if I had to go to a parts store.

You can always tell a Pennzoil motor when you open it up. More leaks, more sludge and carbon build up inside. Then you see the jiffy lube sticker in the window with that little Pennzoil logo on it...

Years ago my boss at the time took a piece of sheet metal and poured a bit of Pennzoil Platinum onto it. Then he took an oxy acetylene torch to the underside of the metal, but not too the point of making it red hot. The oil started boiling and crystalizing within moments. Did the same thing with Mobil 1 and the oil did nothing. Looked exactly the same as when it came out of the bottle, even after keeping heat on it for much longer than the Pennzoil.

Not exactly scientific by any means but I haven’t used Pennzoil since.

I used Mobil1 in my CTS, when I got my Silverado 3 years ago I switched to Penn Plat then when the Ultra came available in Canada switched to that. I guess I’ll switch back to Mobil. Never had an issue with Mobil, Pennzoil just seemed like the new hot shit.

Best thing going for Pennzoil is their marketing
